Start with the place
Hawk's Peak is reached through the Tahoe Donner trail system from the Alder Creek Adventure Center side of Truckee. Tahoe Donner has a large multi-use network, with summer routes for biking, hiking, and horses.
This ride uses those trail links to build toward one clear high point. Because several named trails are involved, it is the kind of ride where stopping at signs and keeping the group together makes the day smoother.

How the ride feels
Hawk's Peak gives you something clear to ride toward. Start low, climb through the Tahoe Donner links, and keep working until the lookout says you made it.
The last push is rocky, but the payoff is simple. You get a place to stop, breathe, look around, and decide how the descent should go.
Finding your way
Start on the gravel path to Wild West Uphill. Follow True Grit to the road crossing.
Turn left on Crazy Horse, then right on Hawk's Peak Trail. Descend the way you came on True Grit unless your group is ready for the harder option.
Use the signs, stop at turns, and do not guess at junctions.
Who this ride is for
Pick this ride when riders who can climb loose or rocky trail with patience.
Newer riders can enjoy the lower trails and turn around before the final push. The route is flexible if you know when to call it.
Keep it local
