Start with the place
Spooner Lake is part of Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park on the Nevada side of the basin. The Spooner Backcountry includes the lake, aspen stands, open and forested land, and a larger network of hiking, equestrian, and mountain biking routes.
This loop stays mellow compared with the bigger East Shore rides nearby. The setting is still special, so keep the pace easy, share the trail, and stay on the signed path around the lake.

How the ride feels
Spooner Lake Trail is calm, short, and easy to enjoy. It is the kind of loop where the point is simply to move, look around, and keep the pace friendly.
Because it is easy to access, expect company. Ride at a mellow pace and give plenty of room to walkers, kids, dogs, and other trail users.
Finding your way
Plan for shared use from the start. Stay on the signed path, slow down near the water, and avoid soft edges around the lake.
Bring a layer, even on a warm day. Wind can move across the lake quickly.
Who this ride is for
This ride is a good fit for beginners, families, and social riders.
It is also a good warm-up or recovery spin for stronger riders who want to move without making the day complicated.
Keep it local
The California 89 Bike Card makes this one easy to keep low-key: a lake loop, a layer in the pack, and a steady pace.
Stop by California 89 before or after for casual mountain pieces that work long after the ride is done.
