A West Shore walk with a little history
Some West Shore hikes feel like a full Tahoe day without asking for a full day of your time. Rubicon Point is one of them. The trail starts inside D.L. Bliss State Park, south of Tahoe City, where forest, granite, cliffside views, and lake history all sit close together.
It is a good pick when you want something scenic but not too long. You still get that classic West Shore feel: tall trees, blue water through the branches, and a reason to stop more than once.

What the trail feels like
This loop is short, but it does not feel like a throwaway walk. The grade is mild, the forest keeps things cool in places, and the views open up above the lake.
The lighthouse site adds a little Tahoe history to the route. It is more of a quiet landmark than a big built-up stop, which fits the trail well.
Finding the trail
Start inside D.L. Bliss State Park. From Tahoe City, take Highway 89 south to the park entrance, then follow the park road about one mile to the trailhead on the right.
For a longer day, you can keep going on the Rubicon Trail toward Emerald Bay and Vikingsholm. That adds real mileage, so make sure your group is ready before turning this into a bigger outing.
Good day for
Choose this hike when you want lake views, a little history, and a shorter West Shore plan. It is especially nice for visitors who want a Tahoe trail that feels special without taking over the whole day.
Before you head out
Check park access, road status, weather, and trail conditions before you go. D.L. Bliss access can change by season, and parking can be tight on warm days.
Bring water, stay on the trail, and remember that pets are not allowed on dirt trails in D.L. Bliss State Park.
Make it a California 89 day
Keep the California 89 Hike Cards in your car or pack for days like this. Pick the trail, read the quick notes, and head out without overthinking it.
Stop by California 89 before or after your hike for a hat, an easy layer, or something comfortable for the rest of the day around Tahoe City.
